Innovation!

Webster’s Dictionary defines “innovation” as “That which is newly introduced; a change.”

Trinity Lyric Opera is adding a new dimension of meaning to the term "innovation" for East Bay audiences and beyond, on four different levels. Through innovation, TLO seeks to heighten the cultural awareness of area-wide audiences by presenting works neglected in our area by other companies. Trinity Lyric Opera was the first to bring Vaughan Williams’ opera “The Pilgrim’s Progress” to U.S. West Coast audiences in 2006, and to great critical acclaim. We plan to seek out, aggressively, staff and cast members to continue in this innovative tradition with Aaron Copland’s “The Tender Land” in 2007, and in years to come, to continue to stage other undeservedly under-performed gems of the repertoire.

Drinking deeply from the well of masterpieces old and new, and from the wonderful artistic talent our area offers, we seek to become a rallying point for artistic and creative innovation second to none. Stepping out into the realm of the new and unexplored is what innovation is all about; innovation defines Trinity Lyric Opera.

* Innovation at TLO means providing local artists and those of internationally recognized calibre with performance opportunities they would not have with other companies. By stepping out of the box, we seek to provide the finest operatic experiences for singers, musicians, technicians and designers, in an atmosphere of creative collaboration. The result is a level of performances for our audiences that will instill within them a deeper appreciation and love for opera.

* Innovation at TLO demands educating our discerning audiences by presenting the great masterpieces and especially, lesser-known works that deserve a wider hearing, preceded by pre-performance lectures. We seek to provide all segments of the greater Bay Area, including entire families with an opportunity of attending outstanding performances at affordable prices.

* Innovation demands motivating young people to strive for excellence by providing role-models in the performing arts through community outreach in the form of chorus sing-along’s and school lecture-demonstrations and assemblies, encouraging them to audition for openings in our chorus and casts.

* Innovation at TLO implies fostering bridges of greater understanding among peoples through the tremendous heritage we have in opera, an art form that spans the centuries, and which has been used as a vehicle of goodwill and communication of the highest ideals between peoples.

Implementing our Mission demands:
* Artistic collaboration between seasoned professionals and rising talent, nurtured in an environment of artistic excellence and vision.
* A stable financial background, through aggressively seeking support from the private and professional sectors. Our funding efforts must then to be put to use wisely and carefully, as we seek to be good stewards of the funds raised by volunteers and officials alike.
* A creative and enthusiastic approach on the part of our Board of Directors to all the Company’s activities, including fund-raising and short and long-term decisions relating to repertoire and staging of performances.
